Kate Shortt is a comedienne, cellist, singer, songwriter, pianist and poet whose work embraces many genres including Jazz, Classical, Theatre, Rock, Portuguese fado and Contemporary. Kate studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and has worked with very many performers including Tears for Fears, Take That and Peter Green’s Splinter Group. She also plays regularly with Christine Tobin, Phil Robson, Liam Noble, John Etheridge, Orphy Robinson etc etc. Kate is a hugely entertaining cabaret performer who combines musical ability with wit and humour bringing ‘…Emotionally rich songs, thoughtful harmonies, and heartfelt reflections on life’ (M.U. Magazine) and a ‘… Very funny polished act and a wonderful elastic face…’ – London Live Radio
Kate is giving her time free of charge and all proceeds go to Side by Side with Refugees and Safe Passage.
SIDE BY SIDE WITH REFUGEES is a N.G.O. which has supported those fleeing war and oppression for six years mainly in Northern France. Driven on by the death of Alan Kurdi the voluntary group has worked tirelessly to respond to ever changing situations. It has long enjoyed support from the jazz and entertainment industry,
SAFE PASSAGE seek to establish legal routes for refugees to apply for asylum without having to make the dreadfully dangerous crossing from France. To date they have helped over 1,800 children find safety and avoid the risks of exploitation.
